James Russell
(added 09/01/12)

It is with great sadness that I must inform you of James Russell’s passing. For those of you that don’t know he was Frank’s father.

James (Jim to all his friends) died peacefully on Saturday 7th January at the grand old age of 90. Jim moved to Gerrards Cross in 1957 and, after discussions with Ken Wood in the Packhorse pub and Neville Compton in the Black Horse pub, joined GXCC . He was 36 then and despite suffering from a bad back enjoyed many seasons with the Saturday and Sunday 2s; encouraging the youngsters and old players alike. Originally a fast bowler, Jim turned to effective off-spin in his latter days.

He ran the Colts at the club with Norman Dickinson in the late 60s and early 70s and played his last game at Great Missenden in 1972. He then took up umpiring. He attended all the courses and completed all the exams and umpired for the first team for many seasons - he was an excellent umpire.

Jim was also Fixture Secretary and Team Secretary and held the position of Club Captain (Chairman) from 1969-1972. He moved to Ilfracombe (Devon) in 1982, umpiring for Braunton CC in the Devon League and also arranged tours for GXCC to Gloucestershire and Devon. He also played cricket for the Oxford Authentics and the Cryptics and was President of the Repton Pilgrims from 1983–1985.

Jim was one of life’s true gentlemen. He had a fearsome intellect and loved chatting to anyone and everyone. His warm and jovial manner was truly infectious and there was never a dull moment when he was around.. Jim has lived a very fulfilling life and he will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him.

On behalf of everyone at GXCC I would like to extend our condolences to the Russell family.

Richard Graham
Chairman, Gerrards Cross CC

Edward Dodd

Many of you will know Edward. He represented the club at U17 level last season. But parents of our U5/U6 Sunday morning coaching sessions will remember him for his excellent coaching.

At the 'Bucks Sports Awards' he was runner-up in the 'Young Leader' section. He was up against stiff opposition and has to be congratulated on his achievement.

Well done Edward!!
