A Brief History of Gerrards Cross Cricket Club

Gerrards Cross Cricket Club is part of Gerrards Cross Sports Club which consists of Cricket, Hockey and Tennis. The club was formed in 1882 and moved to its present site in 1912 when the cricket club was offered land behind the Parish church. A Tennis Section was formed soon afterwards and in the early 1950s many of the cricketers, who were keen hockey players, created a winter section which kept the club active throughout the year.

The 1st XI have been playing in Division 2 (West) of the ECB Home Counties Premier League since 2003. The league was re-structured at the end of the 2013 season which resulted in promotion for the 1st XI who will play in Division 1 in 2014.

The 2nd XI secured promotion from Thames Valley League Division 3a in 2012 and are now playing in Division 2b.

In 2013, the club's 3rd XI will be re-formed and will join the Thames Valley League in Division 9 which will provide the younger members of the club with experience of league cricket.

There are three adult sides on a Saturday and one on a Sunday. There is also a large colts section of over 250, playing at all age groups from 5 to 17. The club is proud of the number of colts that have been selected for Buckinghamshire in recent years and former England Test Captain, Andrew Strauss, played for the club during the 1990s.

In 1985 a magnificent club house was built to replace the ageing tennis and cricket pavilions and this has enabled the club to expand. This is a thriving and extremely social club where all sections support and enjoy each others company. If you are moving to the area or did not know of our existence then come and pay us a visit.

Gerrards Cross CC's annual dinner will be held on Friday 27th March 2015.

Giles Giggins will be speaking on behalf of the club and the guest speaker will be former professional cricketer Peter Bowler (Leicestershire, Derbyshire & Somerset) who has a reputation for being an excellent after dinner speaker.
