GXCC Nets Are Now Closed Until Spring 2022

28 Dec 2021

Dear Member,

2021 was a superb season that saw huge investment in the pavilion, outfield, changing facilities, external mobile defibrillator, and coaching.

This was made possible by the Cricket, Tennis and Sports Club Committees who invested huge amounts of time, with the aim of keeping our Sports Club a high quality, safe and welcoming environment.

Following extensive fundraising and grants supplied by The Gerrards Cross Town Council, Mobbs Memorial Trust (www.mobbsmemorialtrust.com), The Heart of Bucks and Sport England, we have now been able to commission the renovation of our Nets (training facilities) which are very tired and, in places, worn out. This will, depending on the weather, happen in early Spring 2022.

Among the work, the surfaces will be replaced using the same high-quality matting which is currently used in the Nursery End nets at Lords. We figured that if this solution is good enough for the world's international players, then it should be good enough for our Juniors and Senior players!

We understand that the work will take around a week to complete and then there will be a period of a couple of weeks when the surface will be slow with less bounce as the surface settles down. Once that period has passed the surface should (depending on the bowler) offer consistent pace and bounce. Three darker lines (on off, middle, and leg running stumps to stumps down the centre) will help our developing bowlers with their line.

So, thank you for your understanding when the nets are closed and we look forward to seeing you enjoying the improved facility next season!

We wish you all peace, joy, and love.
