Overseas Player for the 2022 Season

29 Oct 2021

Dear Member,

We are exploring the viability of bringing back an overseas cricketer for next season. As many of you already know, overseas cricketers were a regular feature of the GXCC landscape up to 2019 - and then we had a pandemic!  We believe the situation is now stable enough to  invite a new overseas player to spend the season at GXCC in 2022. The most pressing and important issue is accommodation and this email is really ‘testing the water’ to find out if there is anyone within the membership who would be able to offer accommodation next year.

The overseas player would ideally arrive around mid April and would return home in early September. If there are several expressions of interest then accommodation can be shared to ease the load. We have done this before and it has worked very well.

The criteria we apply for an overseas player is as follows:

  • He comes recommended to us either through our contacts abroad or through a number of sports agents we have dealt with over many years.
  • He is likely to hail from Australia, New Zealand or South Africa.
  • He will be in his twenties and will be playing high grade club cricket in his adopted country.
  • He will play 1st team cricket for GXCC and will be an integral part of the Junior Summer Coaching Team.
  • He will assist the groundsman throughout the season.
  • Ideally he will have played in the UK before so he knows the ropes.
  • He will be self-sufficient, can make his own meals and will be expected to do household chores as and when required.

At this stage we are seeking an expression of interest before we get into the detail of finalising arrangements. If you are able to offer accommodation next season, please could you get in touch with either myself or Peter Westaway (Chairman) as soon as possible.
