GXCC: Cricket at GX continues through the summer

29 Jul 2021

Dear members,

With the league season moving into the second half and regular junior coaching coming to an end, I want to let you know that there’s still lots going on at the club for the rest of the season.

Due to the popularity of our Friday evening junior training, we are pleased to offer three additional sessions for parents to sign up to (and Andrew Smith has already sent round details of that). And on the Friday evenings in August when there is no junior training, our under 19 team have matches to play so feel free to come down to support them and soak up the atmosphere on our fantastic new terrace.

Apart from Friday evenings, there are still various junior matches being played, and Chris Marrow is offering cricket camps in the summer for those interested. Get in touch with him if you need more details.

At the end of the season, for the juniors we are having a presentation evening on Friday August 27th at 6pm, more details to follow. And the senior teams will be having their regular end of season presentation evening on Saturday September 4th. We’re also planning a social event for the Sports Club as a whole on Saturday September 11th so look out for more details on that too.

Can I finish this up-beat communication with a more serious appeal to all our members, senior and junior, to respect our facilities. First, please remember that the bar facilities are now being run on a voluntary basis. So please refrain from leaving glasses or any litter out on the outfield, someone has to go around picking these up. I’ve also been asked by the Tennis section to remind our members to respect the tennis courts. There have been instances of youngsters, not necessarily from the cricket section, playing football on the courts and this is obviously not allowed. Can I also remind cricketers that if cricket balls do go on to the courts and they need to retrieve then, not to enter the courts wearing spikes which can damage the courts.

OK. Let the sunshine continue, let the Olympic gold rush carry on and good luck to our cricket teams in all competitions. Both the firsts and seconds have fights on their hands at different ends of the table, and I'm confident that both can be successful come September.

Looking forward to seeing lots of you around the club, supporting our teams and using our new facilities.

Yours in cricket,

Peter Westaway

Chairman Gerrards Cross Cricket Club
