Fellow cricket members and supporters,
On behalf of the whole of Gerrards Cross Sports Club, I am delighted to confirm that the clubhouse will be open for all matches for the football European Championships which start on June 11th. Bar hours will be extended throughout the tournament and we have a brand new additional television for your enjoyment.
Listed below is the match schedule and the extended clubhouse/bar opening hours through to the 20th June. We look forward to welcoming you on the new terrace, serving you a drink (or two) and some excellent football!
Of course, as I’ve explained before, we are now running the bar on a volunteer basis. For the cricket section, we are responsible for manning the bar on Saturday and Sunday afternoon/evenings. So far, for the most part, we have had to resort to paying bar staff due to a lack of volunteers. This is frankly embarrassing when the tennis section is able to get many people to help. Granted, the tennis section has a lot more senior members, but we really can do a lot better than this. So again, please can I plead for people to step up. If our wonderful, new sports club is going to function effectively, we need more than the same few people to make the effort. So WE NEED YOU. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com if you fancy giving it a go one weekend. It really is fun, I did it a couple of weeks back and it really liberated my inner bartender.
I should add that this request is primarily aimed at our playing membership but if any parents of colts, and there are a lot of you, would like to help out, either at the weekend or even for an hour or two on a Friday evening, then please shout up. I know some of you are keen to help.
Apart from the weekend slots, we are now stretching ourselves still further with running the bar during the euros on week nights. At the moment, most of the hard work is being done by a cadre of junior members who we are employing as serving staff over the next few weeks – but for every shift we need a “responsible adult” to pour the pints and lock up at the end of the evening.– so please consider signing up to help out during the euros too. Just click on the link below, fill in your details and availability on the ADULT AVAILABILITYtab, and Nick Acford who is overseeing the bar rota for the euros will be in touch. If you and a partner or friend want to sign up as a double act, that’s fine – the more the merrier, just let him know the details.
Please sign up for all the dates that you are available although it is unlikely you will need to do more than one. Or if you would like to help but the times don’t quite work for you, just drop Nick a WhatsApp or Text on 07557 896889 and we can have a chat to sort out how you might be able to help.
In any case, even if you’re not up for serving behind the bar, please do consider popping up to the club during the evening over the next couple of weeks to watch the sport, soak up the atmosphere and join in the banter!
Friday night will be huge with the weather looking great for Club Night and cricket as well as the football, with our Summer BBQ back in operation.
The sun should also be shining through the opening weekend with England and Wales both in action.
Best wishes, see you soon, and come on England and The Cross.
Chairman Gerrards Cross Cricket Club
