Update on Junior Cricket

17 Jun 2020

Dear Members and Parents,

The news you have all been waiting for, we can start offering some cricket coaching, albeit in a limited way, but it's a start.

The ECB has issued Government backed guidelines that have said it is acceptable to run small group training sessions, one coach to five juniors. We are therefore working on a plan to run junior year group training (i.e Under 9s to Under 15s) on Tuesday evenings and Sundays starting Tuesday 23rd June. This will be for an initial period of four weeks as we are expecting further updates from the ECB on class sizes / social distancing etc. Full ECB guidelines can be found here: https://www.ecb.co.uk/news/1668576/ecb-guidelines-for-the-use-of-outdoor-cricket-facilities-in-lockdown [ecb.co.uk]

Children will be required to bring their own kit including a ball.

Sadly, the current guidelines prevent us from running coaching for the U6 to U8 year groups - as soon as this changes, we'll look at the options.

Specific registration will be required in order for us to manage the small groups needed to meet the guidelines. Full details will be shared this week - places will be limited and priority will be given to juniors who have already paid their subscriptions for this season. If you intend to sign-up for coaching, please pay your subscriptions this week.

At the end of this four-week period we will look at options for further coaching for the remainder of the summer - we're expecting to run coaching and hopefully some friendly matches in some form for the remainder of the summer.

Whilst you are here a gentle reminder of the 100k challenge some of our members are completing to help the club through the financial challenges due to Covid 19. https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/gerrardscross-cricketclub-1 [justgiving.com]
