GXCC: Coronavirus update for junior members

17 Mar 2020

Dear cricket parents,

Further to our communication yesterday, I want to provide you with some more information about the forthcoming cricket season for our junior cricketers.

Much as we hate to do this, with the latest social distancing measures being recommended by the government, we have decided to delay the start of the summer training in late April until a later date, still to be decided. We also expect the junior fixtures to be delayed, though Bucks Cricket have yet to confirm this.

Our ECB All Stars sessions beginning in May are also likely to be delayed but we have not yet received any guidance from the ECB.

We have also decided to cancel the Easter camps. And the cricket nets at Dukes Wood will not be available to use until the cricket season starts. We feel that with the club house closed, this is the prudent thing to do.

The programme of Winter nets at Beaconsfield High School run by Nigel Bruce and Future Legends is still scheduled to carry on until April 4th.

Of course, many of you have already sent in your subscriptions for the upcoming season at GXCC for which we are grateful. Now that the season looks likely to be curtailed, we will in due course send you an appropriate proportional refund depending on how much cricket we lose.

For those of you who have yet to send in your subscriptions, we understand why you may have been hesitating. But it would be helpful for you to let us know whether your youngsters will be playing this year when the season finally gets under way.  And since we are a club that depends on cash flow to meet ongoing expenses, we would be really grateful if you could send in your subscriptions too, but failing that, a message of intention to play would be fine.

So to conclude, sorry to bring you such disappointing news, even if it is not completely unsurprising. As the current situation evolves, we will keep you up to date with any changes in our plans as soon as we know them.
